LITERACY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMME
This unique literacy programme began in
mid 2004. It involves all children in grades Prep, 1 and 2.
Groups consist of half a grade at a time, taken by 2 literacy aides to the Literacy Room for an hour at least twice a week.
The other half of the grade works with the classroom teacher on a literacy programme.
It provides
intensive literacy instruction to groups of approximately 10 children.
The programme is based on enhancing reading, writing and spelling skills and often involves craft based activities.
Each childs reading progress is regularly monitored at their reading recovery levels.
Since its inception the programme has lifted the reading standards to and above state levels.
In
2006 and 2007 the school was awarded a
National Literacy Award in recognition of the Schools achievement in raising the reading levels and maintaining them.
